Basement pics

Our basement was flooded from the recent storms. YY took some pictures after we did a lot of clean-up work. If you'd like to see them go to my livejournal: http://mrsaudio.livejournal.com.

Why Now?

I haven't had to treat a maggot dog in a long time. Now the last week I have to work here (my last shift will be next Wednesday overnight) and one comes in. A 15 year old Sheltie mix with maggots crawling out of his anus and they didn't want to put him to sleep. And this is not the first time, it's the 3rd. That's right the past 2 years he's been infected with maggots when the flies start coming out. Did I mention that I hate maggots with a passion? They make my skin crawl and there's a smell associated with them that's just nasty. So we put him on IV fluids and gave him medication for pain and started shaving his butt to clean the maggots off/out. Then the doc did a brief rectal exam and could feel a mass in his rectum - probably a prostatic tumor. So I have a feeling this dog is not long for the world.

Not long before I can happily say goodbye to this insane place. I'm working Thursday night, a double on Friday night, then another double next Wednesday. Then I'm outta here! And good riddance!

Hill's called this morning.

I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

I will be starting on May 14th. I still have to take the drug test and mini-physical, but those are just technicalities. I'm going in to work tonight to tell my boss that I'll be leaving at the end of the month. I'll work on the Wednseday, the 2nd if he wants, but after that I'll be outta there!

I'm all interviewed out.

Oh what a long day yesterday was. I got up around 8:30am so I'd have plenty of time to get ready before leaving. Also giving me some time to eat a much needed breakfast. It took about 25 minutes to get to the research center in north Topeka. I got there about 10 minutes early with the wind blowing my hair all over the place, got checked in by the security guard and was even given a visitor's badge. When I first arrived I had to sign a nondisclosure form, saying I wouldn't tell any secrets, so I won't give any real descriptions of the facility itself. My first interview was over lunch with 2 of the technicians (the job I was applying for).  There was pizza supplied, but it was supreme or something like it with olives and mushrooms aloong with the meat (not what I really go for). I really didn't want to eat any of it, but since I knew I wasn't going to be having anything else the rest of the day, I did eat 1 slice. I had a pretty good conversation with everyone I interviewed with. I really enjoyed the 2 lady docctors who were in charge of taking care of the animals (1 for the beagles, 1 for the cats), they were very nice. They gave me a tour of the facility and seeing the new cat colony (which is almost done) was really exciting. I saw a mock up of the new dog facility too (it'll be done in a couple of years) and it was really cool too. I was asked a bunch of canned questions dealing with situations instead of "tell me about yourself". It was like "tell me a situation in which blah, blah, blah, what your did and what the result was. A lot of the questions were similar to each other from interviewer to interviewer and thankfully I didn't have to have a different answer for every question. Each interviewer got a version of the same story for one of their questions. Each interview took about an hour and was thankfully allowed to go to the restroom at one point since I'd drank about 3 little bottles of water. I was so tired by the end of the afternoon, even though all I had to do was answer questions all day. But I think it went pretty well.

After I left I was so tired and hungry my brain wasn't really working properly. I met up with Mr. Audio at his mom's apartment and they wanted a report of the day. I tried to give them as good an account as I could, but lack of blood suger was making my brain slow. And my heels were killing me, because my new shoes rubbed the backs of my heels all day, giving me little blisters (they're covered with bandaids now for protection). So hubby took me to get some food and I ate my Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich and fries like nothing else had tasted better in the world. My brain started to work a bit better, but I couldn't give any better answers but that it seemed to go pretty well. I didn't have an answer right then, since all the interviewers had to get together and conference and they were 6 total candidates and only 3 positions open. However, this afternoon I'm feeling very positive, because I got a call from the HR guy and he said that they were going to move ahead with the process and check my references, then if that all goes well and they offer me the position, I'll have to do a drug test and a physical. Hopefully, I'll have an answer by the end of next week.

I'd really be excited about working in the cat colony. I am a bit more partial to cats, plus cats tend to be less messy than dogs and are much quieter than beagles .

Double duty

I'm working a double tonight, but atleast I knew about it before I left the house, so I could prepare. In exchange I have Sunday night off, which I prefer. And I'm even offering to make the exchange permanent (that is of course until I get a new job). That way I have Sunday nights free and I don't have to worry about if someone is going to come in or not on Wednesday night.

I'm hoping that I'll only be working here 3 more weeks. I have my Hill's interview on Tuesday. It's an all day affair too. They sent me a packet of information including my official application and schedule for my "interview". I start out at 11:30am with a tour of the facility, then I have lunch with 2 of the animal care & research technicians (the job I'd have), then an hour interview with 2 of the animal care & research vets, an hour with 2 managing vets, another hour in the pet nutrition center and then the last hour is with the human resources manager. I should be done around 5pm. Hill's is nothing if not thorough.

I wonder when I'll hear back to know if I get the job or not. Assuming everything goes well, I'll work here for the next 3 weeks (until the 23rd or so), take a couple weeks off (depending on how the budget looks) and start at Hill's on the 7th of May. I could start earlier than that, but I need to take the 4th off to go to a wedding in Colorado and didn't really want to start off by missing the first Friday of work (unless they're OK with that). I'll still take at least 1 week off to try to get accustomed to getting up in the morning. Thank heaven I'll have YY to wake me up in the mornings.

I'm so excited about being able to finally get out of this place. I pray everything goes well and they all like me.
